Dear Actionmarguerite St. Boniface Residents and Families,

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the DE Tower residents and family members who have exercised great patience and cooperation during the breakdown of the two elevators at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface.

It’s also important to congratulate our teams, who were able to put our contingency plans in place in a minimal amount of time and in a spirit of absolute cooperation. What’s more, our volunteers answered the call and showed up to lend a hand.

We promised to provide you with regular updates on the situation. Here’s what we know as of today. The company that maintains our elevators was able to locate a different brand of elevator generator similar to ours. It is believed that this generator can be delivered this week, and that time will then have to be allowed for repairs to one of the elevators. We do not yet have an estimate of the time needed to complete the repairs. We are still working with our service provider to develop a plan to make the second elevator operational.

Until the situation is resolved, we will continue with the following:

1) For medical emergencies and urgent medical appointments that cannot be rescheduled, we are working with “Patient Transport Services” to ensure that we are able to safely transport residents who require assistance.

2) Nursing staff will contact families whose loved ones have appointments that can be rescheduled, and invite them to do so.

3) Visitors to the DE Tower will need to use the stairs. If you are unable to use the stairs, we ask you to postpone your visit. We will designate a staff member or volunteer to open the stairwell doors for you and accompany you to the appropriate unit.

4) Visits should be planned so that you are on the unit before meal service and ready to stay until the end of it; or avoid the following times:

  • Breakfast: 0700-0900
  • Lunch: 1100-1300
  • Supper: 1600-1800

Your cooperation will help us ensure everyone’s safety during meal delivery and clean-up afterwards. For each meal service, staff will bring the hot dishes upstairs and take the containers and utensils downstairs. Whenever possible, we will try to accommodate you during these times, but you may be asked to wait until the stairs are clear.

Ideally, one of the elevators will be back in service by the weekend. However, this may not be possible. If this is the case, we’d like to assure you that we’ll do our utmost to facilitate visits, especially as it’s Mother’s Day. We will be required to follow the directives above.

Thank you for all you’ve done to date to help keep our residents, staff, volunteers and visitors safe.

Should you have any questions, please write to info@actionmarguerite.ca.

Sincerely,

The Actionmarguerite Team
