Update on outbreaks at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface

Dear Actionmarguerite St. Boniface Residents and Families,

In addition to the ongoing respiratory illness outbreak on 3DE and 4AB, we also have a suspected common cold outbreak on 5AB.

The following measures are in place for units 3DE, 4AB and 5AB ONLY:

  • General visitors are asked to defer their visit to 3DE, 4AB and 5AB.
  • Essential visitors are invited to come at their own risk. If the resident you are visiting has symptoms, we highly encourage you to wear a medical mask and eye protection. These can be found when entering Actionmarguerite. When you arrive on the unit, please report to the nursing station, supplies will be available on the unit as well.
  • We are actively monitoring all residents for any signs of illness.
  • Cleaning of high touch surfaces, common areas and residents’ rooms has been increased.
  • Asymptomatic residents may continue to:
    • Participate in group activities and spiritual care services on the unit.
    • Use the dining room on the unit.
    • Leave for outside events such as medical and other appointments and family outings. When exiting the facility, residents are encouraged to wear a mask and perform hand hygiene.
  • All residents will be able to attend essential medical appointments. Symptomatic residents will be required to wear a mask and perform hand hygiene when leaving their room if on isolation.
  • Off unit activities including visitation, hairdressing appointments and mass will need to be deferred for residents of outbreak units.
  • One-on-one activities such as spiritual care, recreation and other activities will be offered to residents who are symptomatic.

We would like to take this opportunity to share these reminders regarding the importance of adhering to infection prevention and control measures. Please:

  • Self-monitor for signs and symptoms of illness and stay home if you are ill;
  • Wash or sanitize your hands thoroughly and often,
  • Protect yourself by using the personal protective equipment for your visit on outbreak units as recommended by the staff.
