Dear Actionmarguerite Families,

As the transmission of the virus continues in our community, the reality is that it will cause a resurgence of outbreaks in long-term care settings. There are now twelve (12) long-term care settings with declared outbreaks in Winnipeg.

We have a new COVID-19 outbreak to declare on the 4AB unit at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface. Please see our outbreak status update below for further information.

Outbreak Status

Actionmarguerite St. Boniface

  • An outbreak has been declared on 4AB.
  • Four (4) residents have tested positive, for a total of 4 active cases.
  • One staff member has tested positive related to this outbreak.
  • General visits have been suspended for residents living on 4AB.
  • Essential visitors to 4AB are welcome to visit at their own risk. Personal protective equipment will be provided and must be worn during the visit. Please ensure that hand hygiene is performed thoroughly and frequently.

Actionmarguerite St. Vital – Unité Marguerite (a specialized and secured unit located on the 1st floor for persons living with dementia)

  • No additional residents or employees have tested positive related to this outbreak.
  • We continue to monitor residents who have not tested positive during this outbreak for a period of 10 days as there is a continued risk of transmission.
  • Given the current situation, Essential Visits have resumed for all of Unité Marguerite.
  • We expect general visits to resume once the outbreak is declared over which will likely be next week, as long as no further infections are detected on this unit.

Actionmarguerite St. Joseph

  • No current outbreak.

A message for all who intend to visit during this time

Monday, April 4th marked the end of Spring break for most Manitoba children and their return to school. The unfortunate reality is that the spring break will likely have an impact on the number of COVID-19 cases within our community. If you visited with your grandchildren during the spring break, or if you have children yourself, please take extra precautions when evaluating your health before visiting your loved one at Actionmarguerite.

Recently, COVID-19 has become more difficult to detect, and in some cases can present without any signs or symptoms. If anyone in your household is symptomatic, we strongly recommend they be tested and that you do not visit until their test result is known. If you have any signs or symptoms, we strongly recommend you be tested and that you do not visit. You will not be permitted to enter our facility until you are able to successfully pass the Shared Health COVID-19 PCH Screening process. Best practice is to simply stay home when sick to avoid transmission to others. By experience, we know there is always an increase in infectious diseases after holidays, especially when they involve family gatherings.

For the health and safety of residents and staff, and your own, please continue to practice physical distancing and frequent and thorough hand washing and wear a mask in public places. These measures will be our best defense against COVID-19 in the next few weeks. With your enduring collaboration, Actionmarguerite has been able to respond to the presence of COVID-19, and we will continue to do so.

Please email info@actionmarguerite.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

With appreciation for your enduring cooperation,

Micheline St-Hilaire, Chief Executive Officer & the entire Actionmarguerite Team
