Dear Actionmarguerite Families, Staff, Physicians, and members of the community.

COVID-19 Update #8 – January 12, 2022

Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, Actionmarguerite St. Joseph, Actionmarguerite St. Vital

We are now several weeks into this wave of the pandemic. The sense right now is that the only way through, is through.

Unfortunately, today we are announcing the first death at Actionmarguerite St. Vital linked to a COVID-19 outbreak. We ask the family to accept our condolences and know that our hearts go out to you as you grieve your loved one.

At Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, you will notice below that an additional two (2) units are now on outbreak status (2DE and 4DE). It is important to remember that the majority of residents are faring well and today we are pleased to announce that several residents have been deemed recovered.

Outbreak status

  • Outbreaks* are active on 2ABC, 3ABC, 4ABC, 5ABC, 2DE and 4DE.
  • One (1) resident has been deemed recovered.
  • Three (3) additional residents have tested positive for a total of 29 active cases.

Actionmarguerite St. Vital

  • Two (2) units have active outbreaks (2nd floor and 3rd floor).
  • One (1) death has been linked to the outbreak.
  • Thirteen (13) residents have been deemed recovered.
  • No additional residents have tested positive for a total of 11 active cases.

Actionmarguerite St. Joseph

  • One (1) unit has an active outbreak (1st floor).
  • One (1) resident have been deemed recovered.
  • No additional residents have tested positive, for a total of two (2) active cases.

*N.B. For an outbreak to be declared there must be two cases that are linked together. This can include any combination of staff, visitors, and residents.

Interestingly, this week marks the one-year anniversary of the first COVID-19 vaccine dose given in long-term care in Manitoba. At Actionmarguerite, we can report today that close to 95% of the people we support have received their third dose.

Although the vaccine does not prevent infections due to the Omicron variant, it is providing protection to the people we support, who for the most part are experiencing milder symptoms than what we had seen in our first outbreak in 2021.

With trust in everyone’s capacity to navigate the realities we all face,

Micheline St-Hilaire, Chief Executive Officer & the entire Actionmarguerite Team
