Dear Actionmarguerite Residents and Families,

We are writing to ask for your help. As you may have heard, personal care homes have not received sufficient increases in funding for more than 15 years. The funding that personal care homes receive has not kept up with the rising costs of food, utilities, and medical supplies to name a few. Because of this, and because the cost of living has gone up so drastically, it is getting harder for our sector to meet the needs of residents. This is especially clear in the quality and choice of meals we can offer, and in our ability to take care of our aging buildings before problems arise.

This failure to keep up with operational funding has hit a crisis level where homes are at risk of operating in a perpetual deficit. We cannot make any further cuts to budgets. You can help!

The Province of Manitoba has invited the public to provide input into the 2026-2027 Provincial Budget. You can help us secure the safety and quality of elder care services by attending one of the Manitoba Budget Consultations, or by sending feedback by email or responding to a survey.

Every response counts! Your voice can influence this budget.

How to participate:

1. Complete the online budget survey at https://engagemb.ca/budget-2026. The survey is open until February 21, 2026.

2. Attend the upcoming in-person forum in Winnipeg:

When: Tuesday, February 10

Time: 6:00 p.m.

Where: Dakota Community Centre, 1188 Dakota Street, Winnipeg

Click here to register for the in-person consultation: Budget 2026 Public Meetings | EngageMB

3. Email your comments to MBbudgetfeedback@gov.mb.ca before February 21.

There is power in the collective effort. Please don’t be silent on this urgent and important need. Our elders need us to use our voices to ensure their safety and quality services.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

The Actionmarguerite Team
