Dear Actionmarguerite Residents & Families,
The way Actionmarguerite manages the spread of illnesses like the common cold, the flu, and stomach bugs has changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. After hearing questions and concerns from residents, our team looked at our current plans and made changes to the way we manage illness.
These changes, effective July 1, 2025, are designed to protect physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing while minimizing unnecessary restrictions. Our goal is to use the fewest outbreak measures, for the shortest time, and only when truly necessary to limit restrictions and isolation as much as possible.
What’s New: Outbreak Management
- Tailored Response: The health care team will assess each outbreak and select the outbreak measures needed to balance the risks and benefits of any protocol or restriction.
- Balanced Approach: Some illnesses, like viral gastroenteritis (the stomach flu), may require stricter protocols, while others, like the common cold, may allow for more flexibility.
- Communication: We are also shifting how we communicate outbreaks to make it more timely and efficient. We will be posting the table below on our website that lists all Actionmarguerite living environments and their current outbreak status. The table will be updated on our website Thursdays by 6 p.m. In the case of outbreaks, we will immediately update that information in the table as soon as possible once an outbreak is declared. Please check the website prior to visiting, should you wish to know the outbreak status.
Ongoing Prevention Measures
We know that the most successful infection and prevention measures include:
- Washing and sanitizing your hands often.
- Covering your cough using the inside of your arm.
- Regular cleaning and disinfection of shared spaces.
- Staying home when you’re sick.
- Keeping vaccinations up to date and getting immunized every year.
To learn more about what’s changing, click HERE to access an information sheet [see one-pager which should be posted on our website].
The people we support continue to be among the most vulnerable and the most likely to experience severe symptoms should they become infected with the virus. Families, residents, and staff must work hand-in-hand, exercise caution, and practice diligence in following all public health guidelines to keep outbreaks at bay.
We will evaluate this new process closely and adjust as needed. Thank you for being a good partner in keeping our community healthy!
Sincerely,
The Actionmarguerite Team
