Today we activated the COVID-19 cohort area and transferred four (4) residents who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. To date, we have received confirmation of one (1) resident COVID-19 positive case on 2DE and three (3) resident cases on 3DE. There are a number of outstanding swabs.
Both 2DE and 3DE were in an outbreak (RED ZONE) due to staff and agency cases. Full outbreak precautions have been implemented. This includes the isolation of all residents of 2DE and 3DE in their rooms, full PPE (personal protective equipment) protocols, N-95 masking and increasing infection control protocols and housekeeping. We are also monitoring and asking residents on 4DE to remain in their rooms and on their unit as additional precautionary measures.
The COVID-19 area is part of our pandemic response plan. Dedicated staff is assigned to this area in order to reduce the risk of exposure of other staff or residents.
The remaining residents on units 2DE and 3DE continue to be monitored for symptoms. Surveillance testing and swabbing of residents may occur in the next 24 hours.
We are in communication with our medical director, public health and the WRHA. We have communicated directly with families of the affected residents. Be assured that the nursing staff will call if there are any changes in the situation.
All Essential Caregiver visits and Shelter Visits have been suspended until further notice. Only at end of life will exceptions be made.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
