We became aware late day, December 9th 2020, of a health-care worker at Actionmarguerite St. Joseph, 1149 Leila Ave, who tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee became symptomatic late day on December 7th 2020 and tested positive on December 9th, 2020. The employee’s last day worked was December 5th (day shift on Unit 1 / 1st floor).  The staff person had not worked December 4th, nor December 6th and December 7th, 2020.  NOTE that this incident is unrelated to the Unit 2 / 2nd floor outbreak declared over on December 8th, 2020.

We declared an outbreak on Unit 1 until further notice. The period of communicability would be 48 hours prior to symptom onset. We are completing our contact tracing.

We will contact the families on Unit 1 if their resident is deemed as at medium or high risk.  At the present time, we have identified 5 residents to be at medium risk.  All other residents are at this time considered low risk.  To date, no residents are displaying any symptoms.  We also consider this incident overall to be low risk.

All essential caregiver visits and general visits are suspended until further notice and once contact tracing is complete.

We will only test residents who display any symptoms. Families will be called if a resident is at higher risk or is tested at any time.

Please be assured that as of last evening, we quickly implemented the necessary precautions and implemented all procedures related to infection control protocols.

I know this is frustrating, disappointing and concerning to all residents, families and staff.  Our goal remains to keep everyone safe.  We thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation.

If you have questions specific to the resident’s health condition, please contact the social worker during the work day.  The nursing staff will call families if a resident’s condition changes. If you have any other questions or concerns, please email info@actionmarguerite.ca.
