On October 15th 2020, the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer declared that Licensed Personal Care Homes in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region are being elevated to the RED (CRITICAL) Level of the Province’s Pandemic Response System (https://sharedhealthmb.ca/files/covid-19-memo-winnipeg-response-level-red-pch.pdf ).
Shared Health Manitoba and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority have also issued a letter to families and care givers explaining the impact of this health order on the long term care program : https://sharedhealthmb.ca/files/covid-19-ltc-letter-to-families-code-red-eng.pdf
Actionmarguerite would like to inform you that until further notice; the following will apply to our St. Boniface, St. Vital and St. Joseph personal care homes:
- Designated Essential Visitors will continue to visit as per usual during the hours of 11AM and 7PM Monday to Friday. Essential Visitors will be limited to one visitor per resident per day in order to allow for physical distancing and to limit the number of contacts during a 24 hour period. Essential Visitors will be required to wear a mask and follow the instructions provided previously communications https://www.actionmarguerite.ca/welcome-back-wear-your-mask/ .
- Services such as foot care, hairdressing, and rehab service will continue to the extent that is has a therapeutic benefit to the residents. Additional infection control procedures and precautions are in place.
- Short Term social leaves will be suspended unless for medical or therapeutic benefit to the resident. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
- General visits will resume when the Outdoor Visitation Shelters are available (hopefully in early November). A separate communication will be sent out in due course.
We know that the increase in community spread of this virus will increase the risk of spread among staff and residents in personal care homes. In the event of an outbreak (considered to be one staff or resident COVID positive), we will implement our pandemic response plan. This includes suspending all visits for a period of two weeks to allow for contact tracing and monitoring the risks during this period. Every situation may call for different action in order to respond appropriately to any type of outbreak.
Our commitment is to do everything in our power to keep everyone safe and prevent the virus from entering our homes. We work very closely with public health and the health authorities to ensure that we follow the strictest of guidelines. We expect that our staff will not come to work if they are sick, that they will follow infection control protocols and that they wear their personal protective equipment appropriately at all times.
We also commit to keeping residents, families and staff informed to the best of our abilities on the management of the pandemic. We also invite you to monitor the daily numbers of cases in Winnipeg by accessing the following site https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/
