Under the Recreation Workers’ supervision, the Student Recreation Worker, while demonstrating a commitment to the vision, mission and values of Actionmarguerite, will assist with outings in the community, barbeques, walks, individualized programs catered to a resident’s needs, feeding and other projects as assigned.  The student will also help port the resident to activities and aide in encouraging participation.


Service and Assignment: Care and Service

Shift and Hours of Work: 0.90 FTE – 8 week – part-time – term, days, currently 09:00 – 16:30
Pay Scale: $11.90 per hour
Specifications: Term ending August 27, 2021. Assignment and hours of work are subject to change at any time as per operational requirements.

Required Qualifications

Canada Summer Job Criteria:

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

Education and Experience:

  • Student currently registered in a Recreation, Human Ecology, Social Work, Nursing or other related program;
  • Food Handlers Certificate is an asset.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Student capable of working independently;
  • Is available to work a flex schedule, including occasional evenings and Saturdays;
  • Ability to retain information on a confidential basis;
  • Must be in good physical and mental health;
  • Ability to demonstrate a satisfactory employment record, including attendance; and
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector and Adult Abuse Registry Check deemed satisfactory by the Employer.
All staff are hired for the facility. Employees may hold more than one position in different Actionmarguerite facilities, where the sum total of hours does not exceed 1.0 full-time equivalence.
