At Actionmarguerite, all employees do their best to provide the best possible services to the residents and their families. September 17-21 was Support Staff Excellence Week, aimed at recognizing and thanking these workers who are often overlooked but are essential to the smooth running of the residences.

Oeun Chea, Health Care Aide, Actiommarguerite St. Joseph
“I’ve been working at the St. Joseph residence for almost 34 years. I like my work, so I always have a smile on my face. I really enjoy sharing what I know with younger workers. I show them how I take care of the residents. We work as a team: sometimes they learn from me; sometimes I learn from them. My co-workers and I are like family. They even call me “Daddy.”





Janet Steeves, Health Care Aide, Actionmarguerite St. Vital
“I’ve worked as a health care aide for nearly 14 years, and I’ve been with Actionmarguerite since July 1, 2009. I do this job because I like caring for others. Before becoming a health care aide, I was a social worker, helping immigrants, children and adults…Then the opportunity came up, and I haven’t regretted my decision. I love everything I do here. As soon as I get to work, I’m happy.”

Kevin Castro, Cook, Actionmarguerite St. Vital
“I love my work. The pace is different from a restaurant. It’s more organized, I have more responsibility, and I’m in charge of overseeing food quality. I like working with my team. It’s very satisfying to see the finished product when everyone has made a contribution. I’m delighted to receive this award, because it shows that what I do is appreciated. It makes me proud to serve the residents of this organization.”

Liliose Neche, Receptionist, Actionmarguerite St. Boniface
“I started working for Actionmarguerite six years ago. I wanted to get a sense of what life was like for seniors in residence, and I thought the best way would be to become part of their environment. Now I’m happy to see them every day. Understanding them brings me joy. When I joined the staff, I met some very welcoming people. Today, Actionmarguerite is my second home.”

Latifa Nachafi, Health Care Aide, Actionmarguerite St. Boniface
“Taking care of others is my life’s work. I have been with Actionmarguerite for close to seven years. I care for the residents as I would my own parents or brothers and sisters. They are like family to me. The organization is a wonderful work environment. The staff is really nice, we always get answers to our questions, and the managers always listen and are ready to help us. They supported me when I needed it, and I’ll never forget it.”

“I started working in reception in 1998, and went on to become administrative assistant in 2005. I’m very organized, so the position is a good fit for me. I help the managers and directors…I really like the job. This award shows me that my colleagues think that I’m a good worker, and that makes me proud.”
