NOTE – THIS IS AN UPDATE TO OUR DECEMBER 5TH 2020 POSTING.

It is with great relief that, on the advice of the Medical Officer of Health, the Actionmarguerite St. Joseph resident outbreak is declared over.

The outbreak was declared on December 5th 2020, after receiving the positive test of a Unit 2 resident who was tested on December 3rd 2020. This resident was immediately placed in our Area 19 – COVID care area and precautions were put in place on Unit 2.

This resident was tested again on December 5th 2020.  A negative result of the December 5th test was received on December 7th 2020.

In consultation with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Medical Officer of Health, the December 3rd and December 5th samples were re-tested and determined to be negative.  Out of precautionary measures, and due to the resident still being symptomatic, a third test was performed on December 8th, 2020.  We have just learned late this afternoon that the third test was negative.

The Medical Officer of Health has authorized us to declare the outbreak over effective immediately.  The resident in our Area 19 – COVID care area has returned to the unit.  We continue, as per our protocols, to monitor residents for symptoms and place residents with symptoms on precautions.

The events of the last days have been stressful on all of us and every staff member was required to respond accordingly and adjust to the situation.  I want to thank our nursing, HCA, dietary, housekeeping and maintenance staff for responding to the challenge.  I also want to thank our other staff, including our nursing, medical and management leadership for their diligent response and management of the situation.

Finally, thank you to all families for your words of support and encouragement.

Please note that Essential Caregiver visits will only resume on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 11 AM.
